John Cabot University, an accredited American university in Rome, seeks to fill the position of Assistant to the Director of Development and Alumni Affairs. The Assistant to the Director is responsible for administrative aspects of Development and Alumni Affairs activities, playing an important role by providing administrative support to the Office and participating in all fundraising activities, including donor and public relations, direct mail appeals, and special events.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
Coordinate donations and prepare acknowledgement letters and other correspondence.
Maintain foundation, corporation and individual donor files.
Conduct preliminary research on prospective corporate foundation and individual donors.
Coordinate productions and mailing of spring and year-end appeal letters.
Send appropriate documentation to process credits to donors.
Assist in identifying areas of need to be funded and developing a case of support
Assist in developing appropriate materials to be used for various campaigns
Assist in designing and implementing the development plan
Periodic mailings to alumni for fundraising
Work in collaboration with the Alumni Coordinator for the Alumni website, updating Alumni information, content for the Alumni newsletter,
Coordinates Office-based development strategies and activities to ensure their integration into the University’s overall development program.
Is responsible for the stewardship of gifts to scholarships, Annual Fund, and the ongoing memberships of the 1972 Society.
Conducts research to identify prospects of Alumni and Parents and creates strategies to match prospects’ interests to the priorities of the Office and the University.
Researches, writes, edits the preparation of persuasive, accurate, and grammatically and syntactically correct solicitations, proposals, case statements, reports, correspondence, and other development-related communication materials in support of the unit’s fund-raising activities, particularly to Parents and Alumni.
Assists in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives.
Plans and conducts programs and activities designed to increase the visibility of the Office and the University to internal and external constituencies.
May represent the unit at business and community meetings.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Main requirements and skills:
Bachelor’s degree; at least 2 years of documented professional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Native English required, Italian is a plus
Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and volunteers in a wide range of roles.
Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives.
Database management skills preferred
Ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments.
Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects volunteers, and others.
Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives.
Skills in budget preparation and fiscal management.
Program planning and leadership skills.
